The Solid Rock

_68A9554It is difficult to even begin to describe all that we have faced this past week. They say when it rains, it pours. Well, this past week felt like an angry, raging storm.

How we sometimes long to share with you the details of what we fight on a daily basis at Roots & Wings. And yet we desire to respect every child and parent’s privacy. These are their lives so we can share only what is appropriate and respectful.

Life in the dump community is messy. Our life is filled with broken lives. Broken families. Difficult situations and tough decisions.

Some days it would be so much easier to take in Roots & Wings’ children and keep them from parents that seemingly don’t want, don’t care, and don’t love their children.

It would be so easy to give them food, a bed, clothing and love.

It is NOT easy to work alongside these parents, teaching them that there is a better way to live, that their children NEED them, that they CAN succeed, that each and every one of them is LOVED and has PURPOSE.

That takes time. Lots of time. It takes everything we have to give.

Sometimes I just want to give in. Forget the moms. Let them sink deeper and deeper into their life of sin and depravity. Sometimes I want to say YES, leave your child here and I will love and care for them, but don’t come back, because right now, it is too hard to love you too.

Then I stop. And I remember that Jesus loves that mom too. And this mom needs Jesus just as much as her child.

Pray that we may always chose to love, even when loving is hard. To love when it hurts. To love the ones that are hard to love.

Pray that when the storms hit, our feet may be firmly planted on the solid Rock.

He alone is my rock and the One Who saves me. He is my strong place. I will not be shaken.     Psalm 62:2
